What is Holiness?
January 19, 2012

“Holiness is a selfless openness and response to God’s call in this sacred moment.”

Father Albert Haase, OFM

Recently, i have been reading the book “The Sacred Moment:  Becoming Holy right where you are”  by Father Haase.

His definition of holiness really struck me and I thought I would share it all with you.

Holiness involves selflessness.

It is letting go our own desires and needs and agendas to be attentive to the needs of others in the present moment.

When is the last time you put yourself aside and attended to the other?

Are you aware of the needs of those you rub shoulders with each day?

Are you attune to the moment?

“Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself.

Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them.

Every day begin the task anew.”

St. Francis De Sales

I came across this quotation today and thought it was exactly what God was speaking to my heart.

We have started a new year.

Maybe we have made some promises to ourselves, to God, or to others about changes we will make in our lives.

And, although it is already Jan. 2, 2012 we may have already failed to follow through in these promises.

But, what does God tell us about our imperfections?

He tells us to have patience with ourselves.

And to always begin again.

Today is a day to begin again!

We can always rejoice in that!
